Review from OUTBURN #19
STATE OF BEING - Implosion XII (Reverse Image) Rating: ***5/5*** MELODIC INDUSTRIAL ROCK:
Implosion, combines the best of electro industrial and goth rock with strong vocals and a slight retro feel. The
melodic synths, upbeat electronics, and and organic instruments create rich and varied songs. Most of the vocals are handled
by main songwriter Christopher Földi, and are strangely reminiscent of The Bolshoi, especially on the beat humming
"Fall." The best track is the dark grooving "Instinct" with a goth attitude and heavy guitars. A really cool remix of
"Instinct" by Andy Kubiszewski (Stabbing Westward) is also included on this 12 track album. An impressive release and the
band's best work yet.
Review from Godsend Online
State Of Being - "Implosion" CD - This Cleveland band produces a strong blend of heavy electro-rock, goth, and
synthpop that sounds much more 'live' and human than most in their genre. Taking in such a diverse lot of influences sets SOB
apart from most of their more programmed peers. Vocalist Christopher Foldi has a deep and sort of dramatic presence that may
endear the band to darkwave fans, while his band presents a melodic rock-mixed-with-synths sound that never crosses into
metallic territory, although plenty of guitars are employed. Indeed, STATE OF BEING maintain a more late 80s-style synth/new
wave vibe. Ex-STABBING WESTWARD and THE THE member Andy Kubiszewski's cool and abrasive remix of 'Instinct' is a highlight
that should garner some serious airplay and attention. Solid work that should appeal to a wide cross-section of listeners.

State Of Being
Implosion
Reverse Image
State of Being offers an interesting mix of industrial and electronics.
They have had some help with the album with a re-mix of "Instinct" by Andy
Kubiszewski of the band Stabbing Westward who recently broke up. The vocals
on this CD are different, and have this robotic tone that is almost like
monotone, until the chorus sets in then there is a change. You can really
hear this in the first track "To be or not to". Excavation", the vocals are
a little more melodic. Where I felt the drumming was more the focus
musically the first track, I feel the guitars and keyboards that has more of
piano feel was the more of the focal point for the song musically. Overall,
this song had a great edgy and industrial rock feel. I liked this song a
lot. "Instinct", has whirling synths and catchy beats that will get you into
the track. The snyths tend to be on the darker side to give it a slight
gothic tone underneath the more industrial rock music. The vocals are
strong, and you can really feel the emotion that Christopher Foldi has. One
thing that I do notice is that the music on Implosion definitely has been
taken to a different level then "Static in my Brain", my first introduction
to the band. I am glad to see them making big efforts. "Erosion" and "Fall",
both have more of a rock feel, where the drumming and guitar really drive
the song over the electronics. Songs like "Rain, Awake to Dawn" seem to take
on a darker feel, and is a slight turning point in the album. It just goes
to show you what this band is capable of doing with their sound. Another
thing that I do hear with this band is the influence of many of Chicago
industrial artists that we all have grown up with in this genre, even though
this band comes from Cleveland, Ohio. Overall, State of being is complex,
driven, and has a good mix of industrial meets rock.
Review from the Noisy Page (see page for full
review)
State of Being is a very sharp combination of Industrial, Rock and Alternative music with electro sounds and heavy rhythms
The band (in its early form) exists since 1989.
Implosion is their first full-length CD since 1995.
Listening to this album is a real pleasure.
With a wide range of influences, State Of Being produces a very personal "explosive mixture" of electronic music.
Sometimes Christopher Földi, the lead vocalist, sounds like Douglas McCarthy, and you can think a few seconds during that you
are listening to an unknown Nitzer Ebb album (and it's not unpleasant, on the contrary!)
With this twelve-song album (including a remix), State Of Being really deserves a very large audience.
As almost the entire song's name are short (like KMFDM ones), i will just use two words : buy it !

Sentimentalist
Issue 10 Winter 2003
State of Being
Implosion CD
Somewhere between a mix of Devo and 90's dancefloor synth pop stands State of Being, as a top notch Ohio-based 5-piece electro
band. "Excavation" stands out vocally and gets an extra bonus for the nice piano melody which blends so well with the keys.
Though Implosion doesn'thave the all-out production of some of the bigger electro EBM bands today, this disc is
certainly one that will get you grooving in no time.
Some of the choral harmonies on songs such as "Erosion," are reminiscent of Bolshoi, which is certainly another positive.

State of Being
Implosion
~reviewed by Mike Ventarola
State of Being'’s Implosion, is a concept album that utilizes metaphors which include relational situations as well as time
and space themes. This release takes the band away from simply industrial music to a more industrial-rock hybrid with a BPM
range between 100 to 170. Included on this CD is a new version of their track “Instinct {metal and glass)” remixed by Andy
Kubiszewski (ex-Stabbing Westward, The The, Exotic Birds)
This is also noted as their fourth CD, yet their discography indicates that they have recorded and released 5 EP’s and 2 full
releases. Additionally they have also been on at least 4 compilations to date and have had guest spots with such bands as
Thrill Kill Kult, The Church, Sister Machine Gun, Chemlab, Gravity Kills, Dink, Hate Dept., Electric Hellfire Club and Junkie
XL. Still with me? Good!
The band has also received commercial as well as college airplay and have an impressive press kit of glowing reviews from
notable magazines around the globe.
State of Being certainly demonstrate a unique talent and have created an album that defies any particular categorization as
far as the underground is concerned. There is no doubt why the band would receive such praise, particularly from the magazines
that are geared more towards the mainstream industrial crowd. The band worked diligently on the lyrics and thematic approach.
The packaging is well done and the press kit is as professional as one could hope to expect from a band.
Industrial rock fans in their mid-20’s or younger will more than likely find this a welcome respite in the music world because
the band offers a little of everything without staying too long in any one place.
However, regardless of all the kudos and praise, Implosion didn’t resonate with this reviewer at all. My major contention
with this Cd is the fact that it has such a commercial sound, predictable chord changes and vocals with a limited range. To
these ears, it offers the same type of “throw away” music that is coming forth from regular FM radio these days, and simply
isn’t something that would appeal to the older underground music fan.
State of Being has the makings for a commercial band that could be big. However, their leaning too far into the “alternative”
strata may not net them many underground converts along the way.
